The Story of the Oak

This oak tree dates back to the days of George Washington.  It started its growth in 1793 and still stands next to the Spring River Oaks office today.  The campground was named after this mighty tree.  Diana Walsh believes that the railroad workers would use its shade in the hot summer days while they were laying track for the Frisco line, and that is the reason it was not cut for cross ties.  Today it reminds us that things rooted deep can survive the trials of time.
